My publisher told me this morning that This Close has gone into a second printing. I’m thrilled and so grateful to everyone at Graywolf Press for all the hard work that goes into making a book of short stories sell.

Chapter 16

April 3, 2013

This review of This Close by Sarah Norris is one of my favorites. The ending: “The experience of visiting these characters is comparable to opening the twelve small windows of an advent calendar only to find, one after the other, that the emotional resonance of peering into the scenes is so familiar it’s startling. These people are strangers, yet we know them; their grasping for connection, to themselves and to one another, is specific and personal. The house they live in could be your own house—it’s that close.” Click to read the whole review.

The Washington Post

April 3, 2013

A very nice story collection round-up in today’s Washington Post. This Close is reviewed alongside collections by Jennifer Haigh and Sarah Hall. “Quiet and clear, Kane’s stories eschew the flashy for the profound.” Click to read the whole review.

Vol. 1 Brooklyn

March 26, 2013

Tobias Carroll reviews This Close. My favorite bit: “With This Close, Kane proves as skilled with snappy dialogue and decisive actions as she is with those things left unsaid and undone…” Click to read the whole review.
